Cathy Nguyen was born in San Francisco, CA and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended the Pennsylvania Governor's School of the Arts, where she studied painting. Following her fine art education she received her Bachelors degree from California College of the Arts, in San Francisco, where she majored in Fashion Design. At California College of the Arts she developed a passion for knitwear design, which lead her to internships in New York, for labels Tom Scott and Uluru. Prior to her internships in New York, she interned with Del Forte Denim in Berkeley, Ca. Her designs have been featured in 7x7 magazine, SF Chronicle, and showcased in both local and international fashion exhibitions across the world. These exhibitions have been shown in such venues as the San Francisco MOMA and Istanbul’s Garanti Gallery. Her senior thesis work, Quadrilateral, was selected by Surface Magazine for their 2009 Thesis Guide, a published guide highlighting notable design graduates across the US. Cathy is inspired by modern architecture, minimalist art, and black and white photography. Her aesthetic is a balance of the innovative, pragmatic, and poetic. |
